This room in our house has pretty much looked like this since we built the house 8 years ago. It’s the formal living room, so it is the first room that you see when you walk through our front door. Hmmmm…. maybe that’s why I have everyone go through the garage 😉
I loved the paint color at the time we chose it, but now, it was just looking dated and dark!
I purchased this beautiful new cream-colored sofa from Macy’s. I love it! Because it’s leather, I don’t worry about the kids damaging it. Leather is the way to go with little ones in the house!
I bought these fabulous Mongolian fur pillows and I love them! So soft and fluffy. I love the cozy feel it lends against the leather in the room.
One thing I do when I am redesigning a room in my house is to “shop” around my own house first. Before going out and spending unnecessary money, see what you have in other parts of the house that you can transplant in to the new space! That’s what I did with these sea grass chairs. They have been in our family room for a few years and they ended up working perfectly in here!
See those cool hanging lanterns on the narrow pillars? You’ll never guess how I made those and what they are made of! See the DIY HERE
I love all the accents and the slight nod to coastal in this room, but without being obvious or cliché.
Another detail I love is this shearling rug. I purchased it from Costco after doing a ton of price comparison research. It is luxuriously soft and my kids love it! It’s the preferred seat when playing video games in the room 🙂
The entertainment unit is a piece of furniture that we have had for a long time. It fits in this room well and stores and hides our television and all the punk’s electronics. The mosaic mirror pieces on the either side were purchased at Pier 1. The mosaic pattern goes exceptionally well with the rest of the details in the room.
Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you are inspired to make some improvements in your home after reading this post. Remember, a lot of this was created using DIY techniques and shopping in my own home.
