Tutorial: Toddler Scarflette

861header
I actually had this in my head last year, but never pursued it because I was pretty scarfed out!  You can see last year’s scarf mania Here, Here, Here and Here.  Yah, enough already!

So when I was perusing Target the other day and spotted these super cute knee high socks in the women’s section, I had a flashback.  Make a cutesy scarf for the little punk!

182 (2)
It ended up coming out smaller than a scarf, so I’m going with the scarflette trend.  It’s super cute and she loves wearing it.  The trim is super fun…use whatever you like and get creative!

On this one, I used some home dec pillow trim!

And this one, some faux suede fringe…reminds me of my moccasins from high school  Smile

Want to make one for your little punk?

MATERIALS
840
1 pair of women’s knee high socks….the funkier, the better!
1 button
1” piece of sew-on velcro (both hook and loop pieces)
8” of trim (approx)

841
Cut the socks off just above the heel making sure to keep your cut straight

842
Turn one sock inside out and slip it over the other sock.  So, right sides together.

843
Match up the raw edges and pin in place.  Sew a 1/4” seam, around the entire opening

844
Pull the other sock out, so the scarf is completely right side out now

845
Cut your trim so it is the same length as the opening of one of the socks.  Place it right in between the sock opening.

846
I didn’t pin this down.  It was easier to just hold in place and sew.

847
Arrange your scarf as it would be around your punk’s neck.  Using pins for placement, figure out where your velcro would be best placed.

848
Make sure to mark where the second velcro piece will be on the under part of the scarf

849
Pin the velcro in place

851
Sew in place

852
Center the button right on top of the sewn top velcro.

853
Sew the button to the scarf.  The button is for decorative use only!

174
Wrap around your love muffin…

149
…and have some FUN!

I LOVE this idea. And I always snag the funky women's kneehighs when they go on clearance...so I have a good stockpile of them.

And the youngest Munchkins loves wearing scarves but always ends up tripping on them. Scarflette here we come!

SO cleaver. I wish I could sew. I especially love the hot pink and grey scarf with the turquoise button. The fringe on it is just great.
