Today we have Liz, one half of the duo over at Simple Simon & Co. They are a newer blog that has been showcasing some cutie-pie girl skirts and dresses, and you know I'm all about that!
They came up with this adorable top and brilliantly incorporated scraps in two ways!
Hi! I'm liZ from over at Simple Simon and Co. There my sister-in-law (who is also named elizabeth) and I post our ideas, sewing projects, and tutorials daily. And every Friday we see what we can make for $5 or less.
We were so excited (and intimidated) to be invited to play along with the "Scrap Your Stash" series. Susan must have known what fabric hoarders we are and how I can't bear to throw away even the smallest of pieces. I currently have 2 entire bins FULL of material scraps so this was the perfect challenge for us.
It was hard to narrow down which project we wanted to do but finally we settled on making our own bias tape/binding out of our remnants. We thought the different patterns and colors would be especially fun for use on summer clothing. Like this dress...
So if you have a little something that could use some colorful trim...and maybe a bow...
How to make Binding Out Of Fabric Scraps:
Step #1. Cut your scraps into pieces 2 inches wide and 6 inches long. (The length actually doesn't matter...I just wanted them all to be the same. But it would be cute to have them all different lengths. Just make sure that all your pieces are the same width.)
Step #2. Sew all your pieces (right sides together) into one giant strip.
And then if your like me and still have a pile of scraps after you've made 85 million miles of binding you can use the scraps (that you've already cut) to embelish the bottom of a fun summer shirt. Like this one:

I just love the picture on the climbing wall.....
These are the best!!!! I adore how you used your scraps, liZ! I want a top like that...no, seriously...I do.
Great idea! I love the idea of using scraps to add a lot of fun colors to a plain top or dress. And the stripes keep it from looking too "scrappy," if that's a real thing. I love it!
