This week I'm posting a series on some one-of-a-kind sewing/craft room decor... Here's the First!
You're gonna want to get your supplies ready because, not only is this E-A-S-Y...
It's very stylish and easily customizable
I used an array of one color to match my sewing room decor
Any color combo would be fab...I think rainbow colors would be super fun in the room of a budding fashion designer
Grab your supplies:
Hot glue gun
Scrap Fabric (you'll need at least a 10"x10"square)
Scissors
5 spools of thread
2 rulers
Place a line of hot glue along one of the sides and keeping the fabric straight and taut, adhere the fabric to the backing
On the end, fold over to make a triangle and then fold the next side up and glue down in the same manner. Make sure to keep the fabric pulled tight
How nice, mine was right on a dot :)
Next, figure how you want to arrange your colors. I am using an array of turquoise, so I had to decide if I wanted dark to light... or a mix. Since my colors were very close, I decided on a mix
Now, take the spool that you decided to be in the middle and place a generous amount of hot glue on the back. IMPORTANT: I wanted all my Gutermann labels to be facing the same way (I'm a symmetrical girl) so I made sure to keep a close eye on where I was putting my glue
Place the first spool down right where the pin was. Be sure to center the spool on the pin vertically and horizontally
Continue with the other two spools on each side, and then the outer two spools
Place the backing back into the shadowbox frame and you're done!
How easy was that?
And it adds such a fun interest to the walls of my sewing room

And I think it will involve those rainbow colors :)

Great idea! I should try this with some of the sewing thread my grandma left me but is in colors I won't use (and the thread is too old anyway.)

Love this idea, I am always attracted to the thread racks in fabric stores from their sheer beauty. I think I like the idea of attaching them with a safety pin so you can still use the thread if need be. Then you can swap out your color scheme.
So fun & simple! I wish my "sewing room" wasn't just the 2 feet of space I've managed to hijack behind the couch in the living room so I had a place for stuff like this.
Love it! Perfect for my sewing room, not to mention that is my favorite brand of thread!...not that I am some expert on thread, the little spools just look so cute on my sewing machine! yes that is really why I love it! lol
Love this! I saw this idea in a BHG magazine (or maybe it was DIY..something similar at least)..and have been wanting to do it--as soon as I get a craft room--right now I'm stuck in the corner of our (unfinished) basement. I only dream of having pretty wall decor like this! I love the thread colors you used--aqua is my fav! ;) (and so is Guterman thread!)
