It’s all done!
This bag was a challenge for me…
I absolutely love the outcome though!
I’m loving this fabric too…Ready for spring with yellow and gray
Here’s my two cents:
The bag, after completed, is roomy and sturdy. It really is not a complicated construction, as long as you can decipher AB’s terminology and sketches.
The fabric called for is a tad excessive. Although, I was glad to have it because I ended up having to re-cut a few pieces… which leads me to AB’s vague instructions. Step 7 was completely confusing and seemed like it could’ve been achieved in a much simpler fashion.
I think step by step photos would be very helpful, even if they were drawings. Maybe I’m spoiled by such great tutorials out in blog land. :)
I will definitely be tackling more bags from this book. Heck, I may even make this bag again now that I know what to anticipate. The second one is always easier, right?
Here is the next bag in the book…looks cute, and very handy for the gym or an overnight trip…
Now to pick out the fabric…

ooooh - yours is the best version I've seen - love it!
That is absolutely GORGEOUS! I love it :)
Great Review! I still love the fabrics. How fun, fun, fun.
Your fabrics are great! I'm sad that I can't jump on the yellow & gray trend because those are too close tp Pittsburgh Steelers colors & we are NOT a Steelers house. My husband would have a heart attack. That is a great bag! I LOVE big hobo bags that can double as a purse/diaper bag.
Your's turned out great, Susan! I love the colors. I'm glad you were able to get it finished, I agree more pictures would have been SO helpful for this pattern! Thank goodness the next one is easier (and has a LOT less pieces, so less cutting & fusing!).
wow....beautiful!
Wow! You did a really great job! I love, love, love your fabric choices.
that's GORGEOUS! I love the print!! great job on the bag, I'm going to add "Big Awesome Bag" to my list of thins to sew.
Totally agree with everyone else - your interpretation of the bag from the material to what you wore it with in the photo is inspirational. Brilliant.
Oh that is LOVELY. Your version really makes me want to buy that book. Thanks for sharing.
This looks great! You did a fabulous job!
Which book of hers do you use? I would love to buy 12 Easy Ways to 26 Wonderful Bags.

Great work! Good job. I am also a fan of the gray and yellow combo.
That is so cute! Love the fabric choice. How long did it take you? I'm always curious about that.
I haven't been sewing long and I have already learned that the second one will ALWAYS go much easier...
It looks fabulous. I've noticed that pattern books, in general, tend to have overly vague or just plain bad instructions. I've never had an Amy Butler pattern but I've heard hers can be difficult. The outcome is fabulous, however!
You bag looks beautiful. I made the same model and I was frustrated with how much it took me to clearly decipher the instructions....specially the part of the side pockets! I though it took way too much fabric, but it does come out sturdy and awesome! I don't think I will try that again though (and it was in the easy side of the book!).
great bag!
Lovely! Your fabric choice is just gorgeous :)
I agree re: AB's instructions. I think she needs to get total noobs to test them to make them completely noob-proof. Even as an advanced and skilled sewer. I often have to read them several times to work out what she's getting at.
The fabric requirements on everything of here I've ever made are wasteful which is a shame - if a full yard isn't needed, then why ask people to buy one. I'm pretty sure we could cope with buying 3/4 or 7/8 of a yard!
What brand of fabric did you use??? It's exactly the color/material I've been looking for on my next Cosmo bag!!!!!!
Tory, It's just a Hancock Home Dec. I was definitely in love with it when I saw it too! If you have a local Hacock's I'm sure you;ll find it :)
Your bag came out great!! I love the color combo. I'm just finishing my Cosmo bag. I have the same frustrations with lack of diagrams. I think the handle construction could have been way simpler, and still pretty.
