Tutorial: Burry Furry Vest

Don't you just love a fur vest

Especially if it's lined in purple polka dots

Make it in an afternoon...

And get a season's worth of cute-as-a-button wearin'

You game?...

Materials
Burry Furry Vest Pattern Pieces (Size 2T)
1/2 yard velboa fur fabric
1/2 yard lining fabric
1 yard satin ribbon
Coordinating thread

Instructions

1.  After printing out the pattern pieces, cut according to the pattern piece instructions

2.  RST, sew the 2 SIDES of the liner front to the liner back piece.  You are sewing the sides only.  Repeat with the Fur outer pieces.

3.  Take your ribbon and cut it in half. (18 inches).  Take each half and lay it RST on the fur outer vest front.  Just eyeball the placement.  I placed mine right were the vest starts to curve up.  Baste in place.

4.  Pin the ribbon to the vest.  This is just a precautionary step to prevent the ribbon from being sewn up while sewing the two pieces together

  5.  Lay the two vest pieces RST together and pin all around the entire vest, matching seams and raw edges.  Sew with a 1/4" seam allowance around the entire vest (i.e., where my pathetic yellow squiggly lines are) EXCEPT FOR THE SHOULDER SEAMS.  Leave them open!

See!  Open shoulder seams.  Learn it.  Love it.
Even though the shoulder seam on the left isn't flapped back, it is.
DO NOT SEW THAT ONE EITHER.
Clip all your curves and corners (except the un-sewn parts)

6.  Now pull your vest right side out thru one of those open shoulder seams.  Pull, Pull, Pull.  Make sure once pulled thru that all your corners are pushed thru and looking crisp.

7. I realize this picture is a little funky, but just bear with me.  Take your two liner fabrics at the shoulder seam and pin them RST . Do the same with the fur shoulder seams.  It really looks more complicated than it is.  Once you get to this point, you'll say "Duh", because it will make sense.  Sew with a 1/2" seam.

(DIDN'T TAKE PIC...I'M FIRED!)

8. Twist them right side out and hand sew the openings shut!
You will be hand sewing both sides of each strap, so 4 different spots...but they're small  :)

You are finito!  Now, go run like the wind...

...Or not  :)

NOTE:  The pattern as printed will give you more of a bolero-style vest as shown. You can always add a few inches to the bottom of the vest to make it a more traditional length vest.
Also, both fabrics I purchased at my local Joann's

Thanks for reading!  Enjoy!

soo super cute! Wish we were living in a place where it got below 70 degrees :(
Hey, just wanted to let you know that you don't have to do any hand sewing for those shoulders. After you sew the front and the lining RST, just continue pulling the lining through the shoulder until you can finish the lines on either side of the shoulder RST. Then you can pull them back out through the front and voila!

So, that probably made no sense whatsoever, but you can google "all-in-one-facing" tutorial and there might be some pictures or explanations by somebody way smarter than me.
