Little Guy Ties

We had a special event we were attending last week....a somber, sad event.  Hubmiester's grandpa passed away.  Our family had become extremely close to him these past few years....

I knew I wanted to make something special.  Grandpa had always dressed nice, whether he was going out for dinner, or church, or even just to the store.  NOT a T-shirt and shorts kinda guy!  And that's EXACTLY what we are  :)  Anyway, to honor grandpa, I decided to make some ties for the boys.  I thought they would be ho-hum about it, but to my surprise, they liked it!  I think they kinda got it that they were being respectful to grandpa by wearing them.

I found this great tutorial on The Purl Bee {love them}  and used just a basic black fabric with tiny white polka dots

They were simple and clean

My boys CANNOT take a picture without being a goofball.  I don't know...Are you hungry?  Do you need a snack?
Although he did give us a nice view of the inside seam

And they were literally climbing the walls

Taking a picture with Sissy was nearly impossible.  I can't tell you how many I deleted that were with her pulling her dress up, shoving a dorito in her mouth, crying, looking away, picking her nose....and the boys' expressions didn't change!
And yeah, we had the ties but the patched up jeans we couldn't get around, and besides, Grandpa was a cowboy, so I'm sure he didn't mind the jeans ;)

I did make Punk-ette's dress and will be posting a tutorial on it so check back soon for that... and that fabric!  Oye!  Lovely.  It's Paula Prass Summer Soiree that I bought here.  Go getcha some!

I am linking this post up to all these Party's...go check em out

I'm so very sorry about Grandpa. It's very hard to lose someone you love so much. On the other hand, your ties look wonderful! What a way to honor him.

Thanks for the tip on the tie tutorial. Shame you had to use it for such a sad occasion.

This post is so sweet. My grandpa was a farmer and LOVED Dr. Pepper! We did a nice toast to him with his favorite drink. Love that your boys wore ties in his honor!

My heart goes out to your family on Grandpa's passing. I think the boys understanding of the ties as a tribute to him is very sweet and touching.

I find sewing to be very therapeutic, especially around deaths or hospitalizations / surgeries. I find I usually create something when there is nothing else for me to "do".

I'm comforted by the photos of your guys climbing the walls... mine are similar!
