After buying a cute shirt at Target for Lil' Sis last week, I realized I didn't have any hair bows that really matched...
You know, important stuff.
I thought the flower on the shirt would be super easy to duplicate and would be a cute touch as a hair clip.
**To make your own, you will need**
Felt
Scissors
Snap barette
Embroidery thread
Embroidery needle
Glue gun
Start by creating a template of your choice.
I just sketched my own flower by following the flower shape on the shirt.
Also, cut out 2 barette covers, following the shape of the barette.
Next, using scissors, make a small slit in one of the barette covers
so the barette can slip thru
Slip the bottom of the barette thru the slit you just made
snap the barette closed, making sure all the edges are even
Place the other barette cover on top of the barette and using a thread color of your choice, start hand sewing the cover.
Make sure to use consistent thread spacing
Now, start on the flower, hand sewing the two pieces together
Now start on the center. You can use a different color, or the same, whatever look you are going for. Using the embroidery thread, again making consistent stiches. Make your first stitch. To make the second stitch, bring your needle up through the thread of the first stitch so that your center will eventually fill in completely. In the picture above, I am making the third stitch, coming up through the second stcitch.
When complete, use your glue gun to carefully attatch
the flower to the barette
Play around and use different thread colors
I used several color combos here.
Some coordinating, some contrasting,
use whatever combination suits your needs
I loved making these hair clips for Lil' Sis
